The Last Club Games for the Year

Last weekend we played our last club games of the year, with two tables set up for Chain of Command. One table set for the Eastern Front and the other table set for the Western Front….what more could you wish for….

On the first table, Brian and Dave fought a very tough game, with Brian’s Canadian lads on the attack and Dave’s German lads in the defence. Odds against the Germans were 2-1 with the Canadians on 33pts of support and the Germans on 16pts. The game’s scenario was to ‘Attack an Objective’, which, for this game, focused on a T-intersection.

Dave’s boys put up a great fight and, though starting in a defensive posture, soon took the battle to the Canadians. In doing so, he pushed one of his sections fast and hard and captured a Canadian JoP. This was good play by Dave, but soon the weight of Canadian numbers started to tell. However, being quite stubborn, Dave was determined to fight on and not take a step backwards and soon deployed his one trump card…..a Hetzer.

The Hetzer proved its worth and soon destroyed a Sherman, and later the Canadian M10 Achilles (I think…need to work on my AFV recognition) went up in flames. However, likewise, Brian’s Canadians were just as determined to fight hard. So, Brian deployed his trump card….a Wasp carrier…..damn deadly. On the first shot of this little beast, a German section lost a team, and the other team withdrew faster than they had advanced.

With two sections down and one almost broken, Dave’s German lads decided to call it a day and withdrew back their lines. When done, Brian for the win….but it was a tough win.

On the 2nd table, Tim and Terry played another great battle between a late war German Grenadier Platoon (Tim) and a late war Russian Platoon (Terry). Though I did not follow this game, I do know that it was again a very tough battle with the Russians putting up a very good defence against the Germans. In the end, Tim’s German Platoon won the battle. Well done, Tim and great gaming, Terry.

The Canadians and supporting armour were from Brian’s lovely collection, and the Russian horde from Terry’s collection. The Late War Empress figures and terrain from today’s gaming were from my own collection.
