The first regular line units of my AWI Spanish Army for Sharp Practice are finally completed. The figures are from the very nice Perry Miniatures AWI Spanish range, and I have painted them to represent the Spanish Louisiana Regiment, which fought in many of the battles during this period.
Though the Perry range is though a complete range it is a nice start to an Army that does not see much coverage during this period in the history books nor on the wargaming table. To be honest the only reason I found out about the Spanish involvement during this conflict was when I read the excellent book ‘A Military Gentleman’ by John Ray. The book inspired me to start gaming the AWI period and to collect a Spanish Army. I would like however, to see the Perry’s add some mounted officers, artillery and maybe some Cuera cavalry to the collection.
Anyway let’s hope these fine lads preform well as they fight the first of many battles on they way to capture British held Pensacola.
