Action in North Africa – 1943

Another great afternoon of gaming with David and Gustav, playing our usual game of Chain of Command V2. On one side, David commanded the Italians (with some German support), and on the other, Gustav commanded a platoon of British 8th Army lads (with armour support).

Our scenario on the day was again ‘Attack & Defend’, with the Italians attacking and the British in defence. Once the game started, the Italians quickly gained ground on the British right flank, trying to outflank their defensive line, only to come under a well-planned counterattack. This attack, by a British infantry section and the British PLatoon commander, soon forced the reduced Italian section into hand-to-hand combat and wiped them out. It was not looking good for David and his Italian lads.

However, help was on the way, and Dave soon brought on his Panzer Mk III, followed by a Pak38, which changed the balance of power in favour of the now combined Italian/German force. The British still had a couple of cards up their sleeve and soon deployed their armour support and the 6pdr. A fierce battle soon erupted between the British armour and the German support force…….the Germans came off best, knocking out both the Matilda and Stuart and gunning down the 6pdr crew.

With the loss of the British support assets, the game was over, and the now combined Italian/German forces were able to advance the objective and win the day. Well done, Dave and well played, Gustav.
